State Water Data Center - Building
PREAMBLE
Hydrology project is a project covering important
points of water cycle, brief, easily available and useful to all
database development project. It is in force since September 1995.
The main objective of the Hydrology project is to take
the present institutional arrangement, technical capacity and physical
facilities to the best level. This include, to take samples of surface
and ground water, to examine and make analysis of them and to exchange
the observations with the Government of India and other participatory
states and their affiliated institutions etc.
The duration of total implementation this project was
for six years starting from the year 1995-96, which has been extended
for a year.
MAIN OBJECTIVE OF HYDROLOGY PROJECT:-
- Extension and transformation of present structure for
Hydrological and Hydro meteorological Data Observation centers,
equipments, laboratory arrangement and building etc.
- To collect data related to hydrology, water quantity and weather
and to set up computerized data bank at state and National level for
analysis and to exchange observation taken by satellite.
Utilization of satellite and earth based communication system as per
requirement for internal connection of National and State level
computer data centers.
- To assist water related research development and to impart
training to staff to ensure quality in measurement.
Following main works are included in Hydrology project.
(A) SURFACE WATER HYDROLOGY:
- It was planned to set up state water Data Center in the state to
collect surface water data, ground water data and water quality data
at the one place and by computerizing the same, to link the state
water data Centre with Regional Water Data Centre Hydrabad and
National Water Data Centre New Delhi with satellite. Accordingly,
state water Data Centre equipped with modern instruments has been
set up in Gandhinagar and has been made operational.
- It has been planned to set up laboratory with modern equipments
for taking samples of water and their analysis and computerization.
Staff training project has also been included in this project. All
these works have become operational.
- Provision has been made in the project to purchase equipments
for sedimentation of each big reservoir, computer etc. under
reservoir instrumentation and management. Accordingly, two reservoir
sedimentation equipment are operational.
(B) GROUND WATER HYDROLOGY:-
- To upgrade existing tube wells in the state by installing
instruments like digital water level recorded and to upgrade
laboratories situated at Bhavnagar and Rajkot with instruments. This
work has been completed.
- A new laboratory has been set up at Gandhinagar.
