Introductory:-
Various kind of schemes are included in irrigation programme undertaken by
the state government. Among them medium irrigation scheme play an important
role. Due to the commencement of Five Year Plan, the state government has
undertaken intensive programme of these schemes.
As per the target prescribed by the Government of India, the schemes which
have arable command area of more than 2000 hectares and less than 10,000
hectares, have been classified for the medium irrigation schemes.
In all, 54 medium irrigation schemes have been included in the Ninth Five
Year Plan (1997-2002) which include the schemes of previous Five Year Plan which
are in progress, new schemes and the schemes which are at the forward stage of
construction. Construction works of all these schemes are on different stages of
progress.
During the year 2000-2001; 40,000 hectares of land will be brought under
irrigation facility. As this year is a year of scarcity, there is no adequate
availability of water in reservoirs.

Six irrigation schemes of Eight Five Year Plan which are in progress and new
six irrigation schemes of Ninth Five Year Plan have been included. |
