SURVEY & INVESTIGATION
Introductory :-
Survey and investigation of available irrigation
sources is an integral part of water development. Necessary survey and
investigation of minor, medium, major and multipurpose irrigation
schemes is necessary to ensure consistency in the programme of
construction of irrigation schemes. On the basis of survey and
investigation, a detailed project report is prepared regarding
respective irrigation scheme. In Gujarat, to realize this objective
one water Resources Investigation Circle and Water disposal and land
Reclamation Circle is operational.
Water Resources Investigation Circle-1, Ahmedabad
This circle conducts survey and investigation works of major and
medium irrigation schemes of North Gujarat, Central Gujarat and South
Gujarat. Besides, it conducts important work to reach the irrigation
schemes the stage of construction.
1. To conduct study on water quantity of various rivers in Gujarat
and alluvium in river area and other aspects and to prepare a report.
2. To collect latest and continuous information throughout season
about rain in Gujarat and set up and maintain rainfall measuring
centers.
To collect information regarding flood in rivers during monsoon, to
install wireless stations and prepare schemes regarding flood
preservation.
Water Resources Investigation Circles look after survey and
investigation works of medium and major irrigation schemes. Respective
Panchayat Circle looks after survey works of minor irrigation schemes.
SOIL WATER DRAINAGE AND SOIL RECLAMATION CIRCLE, VADODARA
This circle looks after soil survey water level measuring,
drainage, reclamation, water logging and survey of saline soil.
This office has been entrusted with the following main
works.
To prepare detailed survey, investigation drawing and estimates for
the proposed major and medium level schemes. At this stage, primary
investigation and feasibility report is being prepared. After knowing
irrigation potential sanction is given to present planning report.
After scrutiny of planning report, administrative and technical
sanction is given. During technical scrutiny, if required direction is
given to prepare the report again
Five soil-survey sections are operational to survey soil before
viability of irrigation facility, which provide study services like
geology, geomorphology and on the spot study services for water
disposal.
Till now, survey of soil falling under all irrigation schemes in
the state was conducted by soil survey section operational under
various circles of irrigation department. These sections have been
merged since July 1, 1987 and put under newly formed soil, Drainage
and Reclamation Circle, Vadodara. TO ensure consistency this circle
has been connected with Gujarat Engineering Research Institution. This
circle will do under mentioned research work.
1. Soil Survey :-
A. Detailed soil survey 10.33 lakh hectare.
B. Soil survey for desalination 934 k.m.
C. Reconnaissance soil survey work in 4.21 lakh hectare.
2. Water level measurement :-
To measure ground water level twice in a year in the area of major,
medium and minor irrigation schemes and prepare its report and to
suggest remedy to redress the problems of water logging and salinity
created due to irrigation by the water of canal. Total 18.07 lakh
hectare area has been earmarked for this work.
3. Water logging-survey of saline soil :-
Remote sensing Technique and computer Technique is used to conduct
survey of the area which has become saline and facing water logging
problem due to major irrigation scheme or any other reason and to
suggest remedy and to prepare a report.
4. Drainage and Reclamation :-
Experiments for drainage and reclamation of land on surface and in
underground are conducted in saline land.
5. Research :-
To decide the quality of irrigable water DV/DTC experiments, and
experiments to check the efficiency of the system of drip and drop
irrigation will be conducted.
KALPSAR PROJECT
It has been decided to take on hand multi-purpose and ambitions
“Kalpsar” project by storing water of the rivers- Narmada, Mahi,
Sabarmati, Dhadhar, Bhogavo, Khari,Utavli, Ghelo etc. in the bay of
Khambhat by constructing a dam between Ghogha and Dahej. In this
regard, Messers Heskoning Consulting Company prepared reconnaissance
report in 1988-89 and thereafter the same company prepared
prefeasibility report in 1996 and before taking decision whether
technically and socio-economically this project is feasible, six
interim reports were conducted and their outcome has been received in
1999 which proves that the project is technically feasible. Hereafter
action plan will be taken up at the estimated cost of Rs. 500 crore.
The State Government has decided to allocate 20% (Rs. 100 crore) for
engineering research works at the first stage to collect data base and
other information and to set up Kalpsar-Action Unit and it has also
been decided to invite private sector to prepare the feasibility
estimates. |
