Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI)

Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) is a premiere State Training Institute to impart multi-disciplinary training in the field of Irrigated agriculture.

WALMI-Gujarat has been established in the year 1980-81 at Anand, in Kheda district with the World Bank financial support under direct control of the Area Development Commissioner, Ahmedabad. In 1983, the WALMI was shifted from Anand to Gandhinagar. During 1983-84, it became a participant of USAID assisted "Water Resources Management and Training Programmes". Since 1985, WALMI has been working as an autonomous body under "Gujarat Irrigation Management Society (GIMS) ". The GIMS is registered under Co-operative Societies Registration Act, 1860.

Since May,1990 with the completion of construction of new campus of the Institute, it has shifted its function to this new campus located near Anand at Anand-Vadod Road.

WALMI-Anand is a well-established institute for imparting multi-disciplinary training to in-service Irrigation Engineers, Agronomists, Soil Scientists, Extension Workers, Farmers representing from Minor, Medium and Major Irrigation Project areas as well as officers and farmers of Sardar Sarovar Project. The ultimate goal of training is to achieve a desired level of project efficiency by implementing latest technologies in the irrigation management in participation with farmers and concerned Government Organization.

Water and Land Management Institute

WALMI is an institute imparting training in the various disciplines in the field of agricultural irrigation at State Level. It was set up with the financial assistance of the World Bank in 1980-81 in Anand taluka of Kheda district. After being set up, it participated in the Water Resources, Management and Training Programme during 1983-84. It works as an autonomous institute from March, 1985 under the Gujarat Irrigation Management Society (GIMS).

Infrastructural set up of WALMI - Anand

After completion of a new campus in May, 1990, a new building was set up with infrastructural facilities which included a leaving room, seminar room etc., Vidhya Bhavan (Including class room, library, auditorium, computer centre etc.) in a campus having more than 56 hectors of land and training activities were initiated.

Regional Training Network of WALMI

Besides main campus Anand, WALMI has three training centres functioning at various centres as shown below:-

Gandhinagar (Central and North Gujarat)
Rajkot (Saurashtra and Kutch region)
Surat (South Gujarat)

All these training centres have been fully equipped with infrastructural facilities for imparting training to the inferior staff and farmers.
